Betty Jean (Cornwell) Jones

Betty Jean Jones, 89, of Monticello, Iowa, passed away at her home on Friday, September 29, 2017.  She was born on June 23, 1928, the daughter of Vern William and Martha Isabelle (Hines) Cornwell.

On February 26, 1944, Betty was united in marriage to Ross Oliver Jones.  Together they farmed in the Oneida area for 18 years where they raised their six children.  Ross passed away on April 26, 1962.  Betty then attended Paris Beauty Academy in Cedar Rapids and operated her own hair salon, Haircraft Beauty Salon in Manchester.   She married Jerry Turner on August 24, 1968.  They later divorced.

Survivors include her six children, Elizabeth Briggman of Hiawatha, Margaret (Ken) Breckenfelder and Mary (Roger) Wade all of Manchester, Robin (Georgia) Jones of Edgewood, Juanita (Jeff) Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, and Randy (Connie) Jones of Marion; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one brother, Don (Louise) Cornwell; two sisters, Joyce Hradek and Violet Koehne.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ross; a granddaughter, Marlene Briggman; two grandsons, Michael Breckenfelder and Timmy Breckenfelder; two brothers, Vern Cornwell, Jr. and Richard Cornwell; one sister, Gladys Riddle; and a son-in-law, Merlyn Briggman.
