Charles Francis "Charlie" Nurre

November 6, 1930 ~ July 21, 2017 (age 86) 86 Years Old

Charles Francis “Charlie” Nurre, 86, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester.  He was born on November 6, 1930, in Petersburg, the son of Aloysius and Abeline (Klosterman) Nurre.  Charlie was raised in the Petersburg area and graduated from St. Boniface High School in New Vienna in 1948.  During his younger years, he played baseball in Petersburg. Charlie served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. 

 

On April 26, 1955, Charlie was united in marriage to Alice Helen Weber at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colesburg.  Seven children were born to this union.  The couple began farming near Manchester and in 1964 moved to their current farm between Edgewood and Strawberry Point. 

 

Charlie loved to golf and watch baseball on television.  He was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan. Charlie was a longtime member of St. Mark Catholic Church.  He loved spending time with his family.

 

Survivors include six children, Chris Nurre of North Las Vegas, Nevada, Dan Nurre of Aurora, Illinois, Mark (Christine) Nurre of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, Angie (Dick) Jansa of Ely, John (Lisa) Nurre of Strawberry Point, and Joan (Ronnie) Boardman of Arlington; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, with one on the way; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Nurre of Strawberry Point; six siblings, Verna Mae Steffen and Arlene (Dave) Steffen all of Luxemburg, Joe (Helen) Nurre of Manchester, Rosemary Nichols of Dyersville, Kenny (Dorothy) Nurre of Rockford, Illinois, and Gary (Rita) Nurre of Petersburg; one sister-in-law, Rose Marie Nurre of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice Nurre on December 14, 2007; one son, Paul Nurre on September 23, 2009; one brother, Alfred “Fritz” Nurre; and two brothers-in-law, Julius Steffen and John Steger.
