Clyde Edwin Jennings

Clyde Edwin Jennings, 92, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 9, 2017, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa.  He was born on September 11, 1924, in Garber, the son of Arthur and Marie (Thein) Jennings. Clyde was born and raised on the family century farm.  He graduated as the class valedictorian in 1941 from Elkport High School.  Clyde served honorably in the United States Army during WWII. 

On November 10, 1949, Clyde was united in marriage to Helen Walters at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Garber.  Two children were born to this union.  The family remained on the family farm and continued to live there until three years ago.  Clyde and Helen then made their home in Strawberry Point at the Gernand Retirement Village. 

Clyde was a 50 year member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Garber and also a member of First Congregational Church in Elkader.  He enjoyed traveling, woodworking and mushroom hunting.  Clyde loved to fish and play cards at Sears Station in Elkport.  He loved to spend time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Helen Jennings of Strawberry Point; his two children, Edwin (Tina) Jennings of Strawberry Point, and Jean (Mike) Vorwald of Manchester; four grandchildren, Shiloh, Tiffany, Christel, and Christopher; and three great-grandchildren, Connor, Addalyn, and Avery.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Walter Jennings; and his sister, Inez Akers.

Memorials may be directed to Mount Harmony Cemetery or to the donor’s choice.
