Ellen Ruth (Sass) Vaske

Ellen Ruth Vaske, 74, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester on August 4, 2016.  She was born in Iowa City, on April 12, 1942, the daughter of Lee and Dawn (Perry) Sass.  Ellen was raised and educated in the area, and graduated from Marquette High School and also Mercy School of Nursing.

Ellen worked as a surgical nurse at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids for ten years, was a childcare giver, Special Education School aide, and Manchester Pool Concession Manager.  Ellen also in her retirement, volunteered at West Delaware School.

On September 23, 1972, Ellen was united in marriage to Walter Vaske at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester.  Together they resided in Manchester.

Ellen was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Gerald’s Study Group.

Survivors include her husband, Walter Vaske of Manchester; one son, Russell Vaske of Manchester; an uncle, Jim Sass, a nephew, Darren (Tammy) Hasbrouck; two nieces, Dawn (Charlie) Relph and Danielle Hasbrouck; brothers-and-sisters-in-law, LaVerne Vaske, Irvin (Jeanette) Vaske, Mary Quint, Gene (Betty) Vaske, Leon (Verna) Vaske; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Donna Hasbrouck; three brothers-in-law, Art, Jerry, and Bob Vaske; and step-father, Roz Sayre.
