Elsie Viola (Schellhammer) Meyer

Elsie Viola Meyer, 93, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away at the Edgewood Convalescent Home on Wednesday, April 19, 2017.  She was born on October 22, 1923, in Lansing the daughter of George and Minnie (Uren) Schellhammer.  Elsie was raised in the area and attended rural school.

Elsie was united in marriage to Leslie Carl Meyer on April 24, 1942, in Lansing.  Ten sons were blessed to this union.  Together they resided in Lansing until 1954 when they moved to Manchester.  Elsie was employed at Maxwell Grocery and Restaurant.  She also did daycare in her home.  

Elsie enjoyed needle work, quilting at the church, and baking.  She has resided at the Edgewood Convalescent Home for the last five years.

Survivors include six sons, Gerald (Patricia) Meyer, Curt (Colleen) Meyer,  Dennis (Krista) Meyer, all of Manchester, Rodney (Cheryl) Meyer of Harcourt, Dale (Michelle) Meyer of Mt Horeb, Wisconsin, and Bruce Meyer of Manchester; 35 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lila Weipert of McGregor.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie on November 17, 1995; four sons, David in infancy, Les, Lyle, and Vernon Meyer; and four siblings, Glenn, Morris, and Ernest Schellhammer, and Marian Reppe.
