Erling Edwin LohmannSeptember 15, 1934 ~ March 10, 2017 (age 82)
Erling Edwin Lohmann, 82, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home. He was born on September 15, 1934, in Bremer, Iowa, the son of Edwin and Helene (Dorn) Lohmann. Erling attended country school and then attended parochial school at St. Paul’s in Readlyn. He graduated from Readlyn High School in 1952.
On August 22, 1954, Erling was united in marriage to Carole Sievers at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Seigel rural Waverly. Five children were blessed to this union. Erling was employed by John Deere in Waterloo. He also was a technician for American Breeders Service (ABS). Erling owned and operated Strawberry Implement for many years and sold real estate for Homestead Realtors and Century 21 in Prairie du Chien.
Some of Erling’s greatest joys in life were the times he spent with his family. He especially enjoyed all the trips he and Carole made to watch all of their grandchildren’s events.
Erling was a former member of EWALU Board. He had been a member of the church council and the Lutheran Home Board. Erling was a recruiter for Jesus with Prison Ministry for many years. Erling and Carole are members of Mission in Christ Lutheran Church and also enjoy attending services at the Greeley Community Church.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Carole Lohmann of Strawberry Point; four children, Cheryl (Gary) Northrop of Arlington, Cindy (Tim Dresen) Rima of Oelwein, Cathy (Dan) Glew of Manchester, and Carla (Duane) Lowry of Maynard; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren plus one on the way; four siblings, Ronald Lohmann of Waverly, Grace ToSaunt of Texas, Susan Eschen of Colorado, and David Lohmann of Tripoli; many nieces and nephews; and Damian Satje who was welcomed into their family through Erling’s Christian Ministry.
Erling was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Charlene Dawson; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Lohmann.
