Glenn C. "Shorty" Harris

Glenn C. “Shorty” Harris, 78, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He was born on September 13, 1938, in Iowa City, the son of Will and Nora (Poor) Harris.  Shorty graduated from Hopkinton High School and then served honorably in the United States Army.

In 1959 Shorty was united in marriage to Joann Helmrich.  Four children were born to this union.  They later divorced.  On August 2, 1997, Shorty was united in marriage to Frances Snyder.  Together they resided in Manchester.  Shorty worked at various jobs over the years.  He was a maintenance worker at the Manchester Hospital and the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home until his retirement.

Survivors include his four children, Deborah (Jeff) Rausch of Bankston, Tom (Diane) Harris of Ft. Worth, Texas, Becky (Joe) Kafer and Jeff (Michelle) Harris all of Manchester; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; step-children, Bob (Mara) Jared of Princeton, Jim (Kelly) Jared of Manchester, John (Debbie) Jared of Ryan, Peggy (Rick) Hempstead of Manchester, and Shelli (John) Meyer of Independence; many step-grandchildren and  step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Virginia (Herman) Yossi of Monticello.

Shorty was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Frances Harris in 2014; and six siblings.
