Gregory Allan Hertenstein

Gregory Allan Hertenstein, 59, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, was pronounced dead on Sunday, September 10, 2017, at his residence in Strawberry Point. He was born on July 7, 1958, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Robert and Barbara (Druger) Hertenstein. He graduated from Starmont High School in 1976.

On August 23, 1986, Gregory married Becky. One son, Christopher Allan, was born to this union. The couple later divorced.

Gregory joined the United States Air Force in 1976 and attended the Community College of the Air Force, studying mechanical technology. He served honorably in the Air Force for more than 21 years, retiring as a senior master staff sergeant in 1997. He then went to work as a jet fuel storage and distribution project manager for Northrup Grumman.

Gregory was a very loyal Chicago Cubs fan.  He had a love of history, camping, playing Spades and chess, and hosting barbeque parties.  He enjoyed watching westerns, namely, John Wayne movies, and Columbo.  He was a very patriotic man who loved his country and his family even more. Gregory was a member of V.F.W. Post #8205 in Parker, Florida.

Survivors include his son, Christopher (Sheryl) Hertenstein of Goodyear, Arizona; three grandchildren, Jenna, Paige, and Jack; siblings, Jenny (Mike) Thoma of Oelwein, John (Brenda) Hertenstein of Oneida, Jeri (Dwayne) Cooper of Oelwein, Jessi (Mark) Campbell of Cedar Rapids, and Tim (Tonya) Hertenstein of Manchester; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and his loving dog, Shadow.

Gregory was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara and Robert Hertenstein; and one sister, Debbie Postel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
