Howard L. Haigh, 98, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2017, at Marietta’s Place in Manchester. Howard was born on July 10, 1918, at Hopkinton, the son of Walter Seth Haigh, Sr., and Ella Hannah (Milroy) Haigh. Howard graduated from Manchester High School.
On September 23, 1936, Howard was united in marriage to Ula Juanita Bacon in Galena, Illinois. Four children were born to this union. The couple resided in the Coralville and Manchester areas. Howard served honorably in the United States Army during World War II. He worked construction and owned Haigh Construction and Metro Laser. Ula died on February 12, 1968.
Howard married Shirley Caudill on February 14, 1980, in Springville. They resided in Manchester.
Howard was a member of the Cedar Rapids Carpenter’s Union 308 and the United Methodist Church, Manchester. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid reader.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Haigh; four children, Hubert Haigh of Cedar Rapids, Hartsel (Helen “Kitty”) Haigh of California, Howard J. (Sue) Haigh of Asbury, and Ulaine J. (Harry) DeLancey of Anamosa; four stepchildren, Reid (Sabrina) Caudill of Shell Rock, Tom (Kim) Mitchell of Alabama, Terry (Darci) Caudill of Springville, and Sandy (Jeff) Tullock of Greenfield, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and step-great-great-grandchildren.
Howard was preceded in death by his first wife, Ula Haigh; his parents; three brothers, Merle Haigh, Walter Haigh, Jr., and Harley Haigh; and a sister, Ella Mae Kenna.
