Jerald Paul “Jerry” Heyer, 75, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester. Jerry was born on December 12, 1941, in Manchester, the son of Vernon “Buster” and Helen (Eberhart) Heyer. He was raised in the Lamont area and graduated from Lamont High School in 1959.
On November 9, 1963, Jerry was united in marriage to Joan Lahr at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. Two children were born to this union. The family lived in Manchester and Jerry drove semi-trucks for Trans Star Trucking in Strawberry Point until his death. He enjoyed trucking and never wanted to retire.
Jerry enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and liked going to the Independence Motor Speedway. He will always be remembered as a devoted family man, who enjoyed making his great-grandchildren giggle.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Joan Heyer of Manchester; his daughter, Teresa (Chip Schuldt) Allison, of Edgewood; five grandchildren, Nathan (Kristi) Allison, Ashlee (Colby) Edel, Taylor (Nicholas Gonzalez) Heyer, Shai Schuldt, and Dylan Schuldt; four great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Larry (Helen) Heyer of Manchester, Linda (Steve) Fishel of Cedar Rapids, and Barbara Reep of Coos Bay, Oregon.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Travis Heyer in 2012.
