John Eugene "Jack" Hense

John Eugene “Jack” Hense, 51, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2017, at his residence.  He was born on June 26, 1966, in Dubuque, the son of Eugene and Betty (Lebben) Hense.  John was raised in the Dubuque area and was a 1984 graduate of Dubuque Hempstead High School.

On April 20, 1991, John was united in marriage to Dee Berns at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo.  One son was born to this union.  The family lived in the Dubuque County area until the spring of 2005.  They then moved to the Edgewood / Strawberry Point area.  John worked at Hodge’s in Dubuque for several years and then was a truck driver for Simons Feed and Grain in Manchester.

John had a dairy herd and milked cows until 2009.  He enjoyed raising short horn cattle and wood working.

Survivors include his wife, Dee Hense of Strawberry Point; his son, Matt Hense of Strawberry Point; three siblings, Chris (Pat) McNamara of Dubuque, Tom (Mary) Hense of Epworth, and Bev (Steve) Wagner of Dubuque; his father-in-law, Donald Berns of Garnavillo; a brother-in-law, Lee Berns of Garnavillo, and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; and his mother-in-law, Carolyn Berns.

A John Hense Memorial Fund has been established at Dupaco Community Credit Union.
