Joseph H. "Joe" Weber

September 6, 1939 ~ February 28, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Joseph H. “Joe” Weber, 77, of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, formerly of Strawberry Point, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.  He was born on September 6, 1939, near Volga, the son of Harold and Genevieve (Otterbeck) Weber.  He attended school at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Elkader, graduating with the class of 1957. After school, Joe worked at Humphrey Dairy in West Union and farmed for a few years.

 

Joe was united in marriage to Della Davis on April 19, 1958. They began farming near Volga. Five children were born to this union. Della passed away in 1970. During this time, Joe owned Joe’s Tavern in Strawberry Point and also worked for SMI. In 1972, Joe met Sharon Heiden-Cornish, and together they blended their families and started Point Plumbing & Heating in Strawberry Point. Sharon passed away in 2001. In 2006, Joe made his permanent residence in Harpers Ferry. That same year Joe was united in marriage to Beverly “Bev” Brecht-Corell-Cooksley on July 1. They made their life in Harpers Ferry.

 

Joe enjoyed fishing, gardening, golfing, birdwatching, and watching the Mississippi River. But he especially enjoyed all the time he spent with family.

 

Joe is survived by his wife Beverly “Bev” Weber of Harpers Ferry; six children, Ann (Dennis) O’Brien of Volga, Judy (Roger) Weston of Arlington, Joe (Jill) Weber of Strawberry Point, Randy (Annette) Weber of Wadena, Tabatha “Pogo” (Joe) Rhines of Edgewood, and Renee Weber of Florida; five step-children, Crystall Corell of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Benjamin (Beth) Corell of Harpers Ferry, Michael (Debi) Corell of Bennington, Nebraska, Richard F. (Jessie Lou) Cooksley of Newhall, and Jesse Cooksley of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one on the way; five step-great-grandchildren; seven siblings, Barb (Chuck) Burgin of Volga, Mary Moyle of Wadena, Theresa (Keith) Polkow of Hawkeye, Tom (Mary) Weber and Terry (Regina) Weber, both of Volga, Tim (Viva) Weber of Oelwein, and Kenny (Lois) Weber of Volga; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Della Weber and Sharon Weber; a son, Donald Weber; a sister, Susan Burrack; and a brother-in-law, Les Moyle.
