Kathy "Kate" (Elledge) Riniker

Kathy “Kate” Riniker, 65, of Masonville, Iowa, passed away in her home after a long battle with ovarian cancer on Sunday, May 14, 2017, surrounded by her family.  She was born on February 29, 1952, in Edgewood, the daughter of Lowell and Marcella (Hyde) Elledge.  Kate was raised and educated in the area, graduating from Edgewood-Colesburg High School in 1970.  She then attended cosmetology school in Dubuque.

On February 13, 1971, Kate was united in marriage to Dean Boeckenstedt.  Two daughters were born to this union.  They later divorced.  Kate was united in marriage to Loras Riniker on September 7, 1997, at First Lutheran Church in Manchester.  Loras passed away in 2012.  Kate worked as a Keystone AEA speech paraprofessional for 37 years.  She also enjoyed working as an event organizer and bartending. 

Kate attended First Lutheran Church in Manchester.  She enjoyed making jewelry, shopping, working as a volunteer, and doing things for others.  Kate enjoyed the challenge of creating new drinks for people.  She liked listening to music and dancing.  It was always important to Kate to make the holidays special for her family and friends. Kate loved attending her children’s and grandchildren’s events.  She was her grandchildren’s number one fan. 

Survivors include her two daughters, Kelly (Bill Downs) Antons of Dundee, and Jodi Burgin of Edgewood; two grandchildren, Brady Antons and Alivia Burgin; her father, Lowell “Jeff” Elledge of Colesburg; one brother, Kurt (Julie) Elledge of Davenport, Washington; her sister, Kandy (Bob) Knepper of Parker, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.

Kate was preceded in death by her mother, Marcella Elledge; her husband, Loras Riniker; one nephew, Ryan Elledge; and her son-in-law, Dean Burgin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred by the family.
