Marvin L. Prier

May 29, 1933 ~ June 16, 2016 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Marvin Lawrence Prier, 83, of Manchester, Iowa, formerly of Ryan, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born on May 29, 1933, at Bankston, Iowa, the son of Edward B. and Lucille (Lansing) Prier.  Marvin was raised and educated in the Holy Cross area.  He served honorably in the United States Army.

 

On June 5, 1956, Marvin was united in marriage to Eunice Oberbroeckling at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg.  Six children were born to this union.  The couple farmed northwest of Holy Cross, and in 1962 moved to a farm northwest of Ryan.  They moved to Manchester in 2001. 

 

Marvin was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ryan and current member at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester.  He was a Catholic Forester and a member of the Ryan American Legion.  He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities, watching the Cubs, and playing cards.  Marvin loved spending time with his family and being on his farm. 

 

Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Eunice Prier of Manchester; five children, Lial (Donna) Prier of Ryan, Pam (Bret) Schneider of Holy Cross, Pat (Deb) Prier of Aplington, Todd (Deb) Prier of Ryan, and Terry (Becky) Prier of Marion; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his eight siblings, Germaine Deutmeyer, Eugene Prier, Gerald (Marilyn) Prier, Edward L. (Eileen) Prier, all of Dyersville, Kay (Ambrose) Eilers of Monticello, Charles (Janet) Prier of Dyersville, Willie (Bonnie) Prier of Dubuque, and Loras (Mary Ellen) Prier of Cedar Falls; a brother-in-law, Elmer Oberbroeckling of Luxemburg; two sisters-in-law, Lavonne Clemen of Holy Cross and Grace (Leon) Pasker of Dyersville; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Leon Prier on February 28, 2016; two brothers-in-law, Roger Deutmeyer and Leon Clemen; and three sisters-in-law, Lucille Prier, Carol Oberbroeckling, and Wilma Prier.
