Scott John Harris

October 24, 1966 ~ April 15, 2017 (age 50) 50 Years Old

Scott J. Harris, 50, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester.  He was born on October 24, 1966, in Manchester the son of John E. and Mary Ellen (Callahan) Harris.  Scott was raised and educated as a young child in Greeley until his parents passed away.   He and his twin brother, Steve, then went to live with their older sister, Nancy, and attended Ed-Co schools and graduated with the class of 1985. After graduation, Scott attended NICC and received his Electrical Degree.

 

Scott and his high school sweetheart, Tammy Helmrichs moved back to Edgewood and  were united in marriage on September 23, 1995,  at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.  Together they made their home in Edgewood for over 25 years.

 

Scott was currently employed and worked at Kendricks in Edgewood as a log hauler.  He is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, has been on the Edgewood Fire Department for 24 years and was currently the Assistant Fire Chief and Assistant Emergency Management Director.  Scott loved being a member of the Edgewood Fire Department and called them his second family.

 

Scott cherished the time he spent with his family. He loved to hunt and fish with Colin and watch Madelyn and Colin play sports.

 

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Tammy Harris of Edgewood; two children Madelyn and Colin, both at home; six siblings, Karen Senters of Webster City, Colleen (Roger) Hicks of Manchester, Nancy (Larry) Stroschein of North Liberty, Joan (Al) Ojanen of Plainview, Minnesota, Laura (Ron) Glanz of Manchester, and his twin brother, Steve Harris of Hills;  his mother-in-law, Connie (Ken) Harder of Manchester; a sister-in-law, Pam (AJ) Koloc of Dundee; two brothers-in-law, Troy (Kim) Helmrichs of Petersburg and Scott (Kim) Helmrichs of Cedar Rapids;  28 nieces and nephews; and 21 great-nieces-and-nephews plus two on the way.

 

Scott was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Mary Ellen Harris;  his father-in-law, Gregory Helmrichs; a brother-in-law, Jerry Senters; and a niece, Tina Stroschein.

 

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
