Wayne Francis Burgin

Wayne Francis Burgin, 88, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at home on his farm surrounded by his family.  Wayne was born on March 27, 1928, on a farm near Littleport, the son of Joseph and Laura (Thurn) Burgin.  He attended country school near Littleport.  Wayne began farming with his father for a few years and then farmed with his uncle Bill.

On August 6, 1949, Wayne was united in marriage to Harriet Simmons in Strawberry Point.  Thirteen children were born to this union.  In 1952, the family moved to a farm near Strawberry Point and in 1962 they moved to their current farm. 

Wayne was a dairy farmer his entire life.  He loved to hunt, go mushroom hunting, and he enjoyed his mules Mike and Ike, and his dog, Teddy.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Harriet Burgin of Strawberry Point; his 12 children, Mary (Donald) Edmonds and Wayne (Evelyn) Burgin all of Strawberry Point, Frank (Rhoda) Burgin of Wadena, Anna (Ralph) Miller of North English, Susan Langmo of Wilmar, Minnesota, Billy (Susan) Burgin of Strawberry Point, Robert (Chris) Burgin of Lamont, Steven (Alice) Burgin of Strawberry Point, Ben (Deanna) Burgin of Pleasantville, Bertha Burgin and Ruth Burgin both of Strawberry Point, and Frances (Fouad Bazzine) Burgin of Marion; 29 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Bottleman of Greeley; and many nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Fred Burgin; one grandson, Jeremiah Burgin; two sisters, Betty Hartbeck and Emma Rodas; and one brother, Burdette Burgin.
