Wilma Catherine (Schade) Singer

Wilma Catherine Singer, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on August 15, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  She was born August 26, 1923, in Ocheyedan, Iowa, the daughter of Gustave Schade and Lillian (Huge) Schade.  Wilma was raised near Stanley, Iowa, attending Lamont, Dundee and Stanley Schools.

 On October 3, 1948, Wilma married Richard Singer, and they lived in Manchester where their four children were born.  Self-employed, Wilma performed custodial work to provide for her family while spending many hours volunteering for her church and helping others.

In her retirement, Wilma moved to the Meadows assisted living facility where she played bingo and cards with friends, went on trips and continued volunteering and helping others when she found the opportunities.

Wilma is survived by her three daughters, Audrey (Larry) Carmichael of Corning, Sharon (Gary) Staton of Cedar Rapids, and Sandra (Nicholas) Bingham of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, with one on the way; a brother, Herbert Schade of Walker; two sisters, Agnes McManigle of Baraboo, Wisconsin, and Delores Bebensee of Pharr, Texas; and many friends and loved ones who will miss her dearly.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Singer; three brothers, Donald, Robert, and Mervin Schade; a son, Garry Singer; and a grandson, Michael Staton.
