Leo LaVern “Barney” Trumm, 83, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born on December 9, 1937, in Monticello, the son of Leo and Coletta (Heid) Trumm. Barney was raised in the Cascade area and was a graduate of St. Mary High School. After graduation, Barney served honorably in the United States Air Force.
On September 26, 1964, Barney was united in marriage to Mary Catherine Grawe at the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville. The couple lived in Cascade for a short time and Barney drove a semi-truck and also worked construction. In 1966 Barney and Mary moved to their farm north of Manchester.
Barney was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. He earned his pilot license, enjoyed skiing, playing pickle ball, and golfing. Barney especially loved farming his land. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary Trumm of Manchester; his siblings, Dorothy (Dwayne) Gorman of Dubuque, Donald (Patricia) Trumm of Dubuque, Eldon (Kaye) Trumm of Worthington, and Steve Trumm of Cascade; his sisters- and brothers-in-law, Ruth McGrane, Darlene (Floyd) Kunkel, Bob (Jean) Grawe, Carol Grawe, Carol (Ken) Cox, Merle (Karen) Grawe, Lois (Ken) Debrosse, Sherrie Grawe, JoAnne (Marty) Wills, Bob DeShaw and Paul Kluesner; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Barney was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul Trumm and Ernest Trumm; and two sisters, Bernadine DeShaw and Mary Kluesner; and brothers-in-law, James Hahn, Pat McGrane, Donnie Grawe and Glen Grawe.
Because of COVID-19 concerns, masks are required at the funeral home and church.
