Charles “Chuck” Dale Simmons, 90, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018, at the Elkader Care Center in Elkader. He was born on April 19, 1928, in East Peru, the son of Dale and Gertrude (Farr) Simmons.
Chuck was raised and educated in the Winterset area and graduated from Winterset High School in 1945. He then attended SMU and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
In 1950, he joined the Iowa State Patrol, living in Algona and Manchester. Chuck was united in marriage to Elaine Nelson on June 14, 1953. Elaine died in 2003. He retired from the Iowa State Patrol in 1978 and was then employed for a few years by Job Service of Iowa.
Chuck was a life member of the American Legion and a member of the Masons. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his two daughters, Sharon (Ron) Morocco of Okoboji, Iowa, and JoAnn (Tom) Shelly of Fort Dodge; and a special friend, Berdina Bell of Elkader.
Chuck was preceded in death by his wife, C. Elaine Simmons; his parents, Dale and Gertrude Simmons; one brother, Gary; and a sister, Sherry.
The family request memorials be directed to St. Croix Hospice of Strawberry Point.
