Claudia Carmen Keith, 89, of Delhi, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. She was born on March 2, 1928, at home on the family farm in Milo Township near Manchester, the daughter of Roy and Naomi (Hobson) Haynes. Claudia attended Portable Country School and Buck Creek School. She then was a 1945 graduate of Greeley High School. That summer, Claudia furthered her education at Iowa State Teachers College and then that fall started teaching at Buck Creek for several years.
On December 31, 1949, Claudia was united in marriage to Gordon Keith at Golden Congregational Church near Ryan. Four children were born to this union. After raising her family, Claudia returned to teaching in 1964 at the Maquoketa Valley School District. She taught 6th grade and reading to junior high students before retiring in the early 1990’s.
Claudia was an avid reader. She loved to tend to her vegetable and flower gardens. Claudia was a member of the Delhi United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Gordon Keith of Delhi; her four children, Thomas Gordon Keith of Waverly, Kirk Stuart (Sally) Keith of Casper, Wyoming, Benjamin Lynn (Alyce) Keith of Delhi, and Carmen Rene Keith of Des Moines; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Utley of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Stephen (Georgia) Haynes of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews.
Claudia was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Thadeus Keith; two sisters, Eleanor (Galen) Beitz and Betty (Eddie) Ulferts; and one brother, Belden Haynes.
