Deryl Dale Hines, 65, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2019, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City from complications related to a long illness. Deryl was born May 18, 1954, to Roberto and Anna Marie (Lamphier) Hines in Iowa City and raised in Clayton and Linn Counties, Iowa. He is a 1972 graduate of Center Point High School.
Deryl married Lu Ann Thurn on June 10, 1972. Through this union they had four children: Todd, Heather, Chad, and Jessica. Deryl spent most of his life in rural Edgewood, where he was a livestock buyer and co-owner of Thurn-Hines Livestock.
Deryl enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and his pets. He had a strong work ethic and enjoyed his job and business and interacting with fellow livestock buyers. Deryl is lovingly remembered for times together fishing, mushroom hunting, watching Iowa Hawkeyes, cooking, and socializing.
Left to mourn his loss are his wife, Lu Ann; his children, Todd (Lisa) Hines of Manchester, Heather (Andy Deans) Hines of State College, Pennsylvania, Chad (Hailey) Hines of Phoenix, Arizona, and Jessica (Andy) Nefzger of Olin; five grandchildren, LayNie, Vivian, Hugo, Arthur, and Alice; one great-grandchild, AriZona; his brother, Marcene (Linda) Hines; one sister, Phyllis Stahr; a sister-in-law, Emily Hines; a brother-in-law, Carl Pensel; the Thurn family: Carl Jr. (Connie), James (Belinda), David (Susan), Kandy (Dale) Reif; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Deryl was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Burnell Hines; a sister Fern Pensel; and his wife’s parents, Carl Sr. and Shirley Thurn.
