Donald Dean Dede, 80, of rural Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. He was born on August 19, 1938, in Boone, the son of Fred and Ruth (Hannum) Dede. Following graduation from Boone High School, Don attended mechanic school in Kansas City.
On April 3, 1960, Don was united in marriage to Janice Schmidt. Two sons were born to this union. After 22 years of service, Don was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard in 1977. Janice died in 1979. Don married Patricia Schmidt on June 9, 1984, at First Lutheran Church in Manchester. He worked as a mechanic at 1st Avenue Chrysler-Plymouth in Cedar Rapids until his retirement in 2000.
Don was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church in Manchester. He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. Don also loved relaxing at their cabin on Lake Delhi. The Iowa Donor Network recognized Don as an eye donor.
Don is survived by his wife, Patricia; one son, Darwin (Tracy) Dede of Marion; a daughter-in-law, Reneé Dede of Marion; two grandchildren, Spencer and Skylar Dede; one sister, Carol (George) VanDee of Cedar Rapids; and his dog, Mollie.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Janice; a son, Kenneth in 2018; and a sister, Marilyn Larson.
