Donald James “D.J.” Naber, 70, of Greeley, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2019, on the family farm, the only home he had ever known. He was born on March 16, 1949, in Edgewood, the son of Donald Walter “Bud” and Elisabeth Jeanne “Betty” (Funke) Naber. He was raised in the Greeley area and graduated from West Delaware High School in 1967. He then graduated with honors from Upper Iowa University in Fayette.
D.J. was a lifelong farmer and recently worked at Ray’s Excavating in Edgewood. He loved Corvettes and participated in many car shows. His prize car was a Silver Anniversary Edition Corvette. D.J. was well known and loved by many, often frequenting local bars and restaurants. He had many good friends whom he visited regularly. D.J. had a generous side many didn’t see, such as annually donating a hog to the Greeley meal site.
Survivors include his sisters, Faye (Phil) Jones of Overland Park, Kansas, and Joan Kerns of Edgewood; nieces and nephews, Phil Jones of Plano, Heather Jones and sons, Braden and Julien, of Olathe, Kansas, Luke (Brooke) Kerns and daughters, Cora and Ada, of Edgewood, and Kaitlyn (Drew) Anderson and daughter, Ellie, of Edgewood; an uncle, Jim (Kathy) Funke of Edgewood; and aunts, Elaine (Bob) Hoffman of Guttenberg and Kay Naber of Winthrop.
D.J. was preceded in death by his parents and many aunts and uncles.
