Donald Lane "Don" Hoover

Donald Lane “Don” Hoover, 74, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. He was born on June 26, 1943, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, the son of Donald and Elaine (Nuttleman) Hoover.  Don was raised and educated in the La Crosse, Wisconsin, school system and graduated from Logan High School in 1961.  He then attended South Dakota School of Mines in Rapids City and graduated with his Bachelors of Biology Degree with an Ecology emphasis.  He also received his Master’s Degree in the same field.  Don then attended the University of Iowa and earned his teaching credentials.

 

Don began his teaching career at the West Delaware School District in Manchester.  He taught science and computers for 42 years. In the later part of his career, he was involved with the drama department.  Don was also instrumental in organizing the West Delaware Education Association. He retired in 2010. 

 

On May 13, 2017, Don was united in marriage with his longtime partner, Gary Lubben, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Don enjoyed gardening, going to plays, and traveling.

 

Survivors include his husband, Gary Lubben, of Manchester; his beloved dachshunds, Gretchen and Eddie; the Lubben family; as well as friends, colleagues, and former students.

 

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Elaine Hoover.
