Donna Mae Welterlen, 90, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home. She was born on June 25, 1927, in Hopkinton, the daughter of Edmund and Edith (Haigh) Orr. Donna was raised and educated in Buck Creek and graduated from Buck Creek High School. She attended and graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids and received her teaching certificate.
After college, Donna moved to Edgewood to begin her teaching career. There she met the love of her life, F. Day Welterlen. On August 10, 1947, Donna and Day were married. Three children were born to this union. The couple were very active in the Edgewood community. Donna enjoyed many outlets for her creative expressions from sewing, knitting, to jewelry making. She was also an avid golfer. Donna was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Family members left to mourn her passing and to treasure her memory include her son, Eugene, daughter-in-law, Marianne, and grandson, Steven Welterlen, all of Mons, Belgium; daughter, Nancy, son-in-law, David Miller of Austin, Texas, and grandson, Matthew Miller, and his wife, Kimberly Hicks, of Houston, Texas; daughter, Marilyn, son-in-law, Del Funk of Cedar Rapids, and granddaughter, Michelle Funk Felder and her husband, Michael Felder, and their two children, Shayanna and Mike of Archdale, North Carolina; one sister, June Orr of Cedar Rapids; and three sisters-in-law, Pat Orr of Marion, Wasie Orr of Manchester, and Marian McClellan of Delavan, Wisconsin.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, F. Day Welterlen in 2008; two brothers, Joe and Frank Orr; and a sister, Emily Marolf.
