Edward Schulte Obituary

Edward Joseph Schulte, 83, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2019, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.  He was born on January 3, 1936, in Dubuque, the son of Bernard and Gertrude (Welbes) Schulte.  Ed attended St. Xavier Grade School of Manchester and then graduated from Manchester High School in 1953. He worked on the Schulte family farm east of Manchester while in school. Ed was an active member of F.F.A. and 4-H.  He was one of the original members of the Delaware Hustlers in 1947. 

 

On May 29, 1956, Ed was united in marriage to MaryAnn Gudenkauf at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ryan. Three daughters were born to this union, Julie Ann, Jane Marie, and Jacqueline Kay. The family continued to farm on the Schulte farm east of Manchester until moving to a farm in Prairie Township in 1968.  The couple retired to Manchester in 1996, where Ed loved working in his shop restoring antique Oliver tractors.

 

Ed was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was a lifelong farmer. He loved the land and was very proud of his farm.  Ed loved and cherished his title of dad and grandpa.

 

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, MaryAnn Schulte of Manchester; his three daughters, Julie (Tom) Schechtman of Greeley, Jane (Richard) Quint of Ryan, and Jackie (Randy) Mormann of Manchester; nine grandchildren, Jessica (Tim) Recker, Sara (Saul) Muniz, Jeffrey (Karla) Schechtman, Ben (Erin) Quint, Marty (Lindsey) Quint, Rachel (Bryan) Kuhn, Blake (friend, Dana Whalen) Mormann, Mitch Mormann, and Molly (friend, Dustin Dinsdale) Mormann; 17 great-grandchildren, Ruby, Maggie, and Leah Recker, Caden, Chase, and Jake Muniz, Charlotte and JoAnna Schechtman, Olivia, Evelyn, Claire, and Hazel Quint, Korbin, Briella, and Aria Quint, and Kaleb and Kaden Kuhn; sisters-and brothers-in-law, Ann Gudenkauf of Manchester, Ray (Sally) Gudenkauf of Ryan, Grace Pruss of Cedar Rapids, Alice (Larry) Sperfslage of Strawberry Point, Judy Gudenkauf of Manchester, and Jerry (Diane) Gudenkauf of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Luella (Tony) Recker, Ray (Ruth) Schulte, Rosie (Jay) Green, and Marvin (Lois) Schulte; and three brothers-in-law, Gerald Gudenkauf, Lester (Marian) Gudenkauf, and Dennis Gudenkauf.
