Eleanor Mary Barr, 90, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester. She was born on June 25, 1929, in Manchester, the daughter of Ernest and Elsie (Callahan) Lewis, and was raised in the Manchester area. Eleanor attended Manchester High School and later Paris Academy in Cedar Rapids.
In 1946, Eleanor was united in marriage to Milan Chrystal. Three children were born to this union. Milan died in 1959. In 1976, Eleanor married Allyn Barr. Eleanor worked as a beautician for 47 years. She moved to the Good Neighbor Home in July 2018.
Eleanor liked playing poker, bowling, and doing puzzles. In her younger years, she enjoyed dressing up for Halloween. Eleanor loved to laugh and care for animals of all kinds. She opened her home to all who needed a welcoming place to stay, especially children.
Survivors include her three children, Linda Rondone of Altamonte Springs, Florida, Diane (Bill) Anderson of Lamont, and Bruce (Ann) Chrystal of Manchester; two stepchildren, Larry (Alice) Barr and Bob (Sharon) Barr, both of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; her special caregiver, Harriet Fisher; and her beloved dog, Sassy.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her two husbands; her parents; four brothers, Donald, Joe, and Eddie, and Robert in infancy; and three sisters, Marietta Lewis, Lana Lee Lewis, and Mary Ann Chrystal.
