Elisabeth "Betty" Jeanne (Funke) Naber

Elisabeth Jeanne “Betty” Naber, 92, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at her home at Lincolnwood Assisted Living in Edgewood, Iowa.  She was born on July 30, 1925, in Greeley, the daughter of Frank and Clara (Clemen) Funke.  Betty attended the Greeley Consolidated School and graduated in 1942.  She then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.  Betty taught in several one room schools in Delaware County for several years.

On November 30, 1946, Betty was united in marriage to Donald Walter “Bud” Naber at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Greeley.  Three children were born to this union. The couple farmed together in the Greeley / Edgewood area since 1947.  Betty also clerked for the Edgewood Sale Barn for five years.

Betty was a longtime member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Edgewood.  She was also a member of the Rosary Society.  Betty was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Greeley and the Edgewood Women’s Club.  She was a former 4-H leader and was a longtime CCD teacher.  Betty liked going on picnics.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her three children, Don “D.J.” Naber of Greeley, Faye (Phil) Jones and Joan Kerns all of Edgewood; four grandchildren, Phil Jones, Heather Jones, Luke Kerns, and Kaitlyn Anderson; five great-grandchildren; two siblings, Jim (Kathy) Funke of Edgewood and Elaine (Bob) Hoffman of Guttenberg; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, “Bud” Naber; three siblings, Francis Funke, Bernice Mensen, and Rosemary Deutmeyer; special adoptive mother, aunt, and friend, Agatha Clemen Funke; three nieces, Elisabeth Funke, Janet Deutmeyer, and Catherine Mensen; two nephews, Steve Hoffman and Francis Funke, Jr.; and special friend, Gene Stanton.
