Ervin Mervin Tucker

Ervin Mervin Tucker, 92, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.  Ervin was born on December 21, 1925, in Clayton County, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Mary (Reimer) Tucker. He was the second of four children, Loretta, Ervin, Dean and Dennis. The family farm was located in Clayton County.

On August 4, 1947, Ervin was united in marriage to Jeannine Berns. Ervin and Jeannine farmed together in Clayton County and raised six children: Johnny, Phyllis, Mary, Donna, Mark, and Eileen. The family farm is still being farmed by the Mark and Becky Tucker family. Ervin was a jack of all trades: carpenter, farmer, veterinarian, electrician, plumber, salesman, financier, entrepreneur, welder, mechanic - whatever it took to get the job done. While farming he built barns and houses, filled silos and baled hay for neighbors, sold livestock, feed, and agriculture equipment.

In 1977, Ervin and Jeannine moved to an acreage near Arlington where Ervin continued in the feed business. His sales ability earned Ervin the Top Salesman position many consecutive years.  It wasn't until his later years that Ervin would find some time to enjoy fishing with kids and grandkids. Ervin and Jeannine also enjoyed card playing, car cruising, camping with friends and family and trips to Branson, Missouri, and Arkansas.  Dancing was a pleasure for both Ervin and Jeannine throughout many of their 71 years together. Ervin's biggest joy was his family. 

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Jeannine Tucker of Manchester; his six children, John (Peggy) Tucker of Strawberry Point, Phyllis Tucker (William Kipp) of Lyons, Colorado, Mary (Terry) Knickerbocker of Strawberry Point, Donna (Gary) Green of Lakeville, Minnesota, Mark (Becky) Tucker of Strawberry Point, and Eileen (Bob) Fuller of Eldora; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one brother, Dean (Grace) Tucker of Strawberry Point; and one sister-in-law, Elaine Waters of Manchester.

Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary Tucker; his brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Vivian Tucker; his sister and brother-in-law, Loretta and Bob Kartman; and a set of twins in infancy.

Memorials may be directed to the St. Mary Catholic Church Parking Lot Fund.
