Erwin Richard Klostermann, 91, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood. He was born on January 3, 1927, in Worthington, the son of Aloysius Anton and Clara Marie (Willenbring) Klostermann. He attended Area Country School in Dodge Township through eighth grade.
Erwin was united in marriage to Viola Mary Thole on September 30, 1953, in Petersburg. Seven children were born to this union. The couple purchased a farm near Manchester in the spring of 1956, owning and operating it until retiring to Manchester in the spring of 1984. They raised milk cows, hogs, chickens, rabbits, geese, ducks, a large vegetable garden, and a variety of fruits and flowers.
Erwin cherished his family and farming. He loved playing baseball and fishing with his children. Erwin always enjoyed visiting about farming, his family, and area history.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Viola of Manchester; seven children, Larry Klostermann of Dubuque, Jane (Donald) Menke of New Vienna, JoAnn Klostermann of Dubuque, Loras (Janet) Klostermann of Omaha, Nebraska, Daniel (Elaine) Klostermann of Manchester, Mary Kay (Mike) Rolfes of Manchester, and Karen (Jim) Armstrong of Des Moines; twelve grandchildren, Cassandra Klostermann of Ames, Steven Klostermann of Dubuque, Kevin Klostermann of Dubuque, Brian Menke of New Vienna, Jenn (Bob) Kanne of Omaha, Nebraska, Tony Klostermann of Swisher, Beth (Clint) Dietrich of Cedar Rapids, Kathy Klostermann of Cedar Rapids, Ben Klostermann of Manchester, Megan (JJ) Pick of Omaha, Nebraska, Matthew (Katy) Rolfes of North Liberty, and Mitchell Rolfes of Earlville; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Clarinda Thole of Manchester; and four sisters-in-law, Pat Klostermann of New Vienna, Mary Klostermann of Worthington, Bernice Thole of Dyersville, and Rita Feldmann of Edgewood.
Erwin was preceded in death by his parents, Alois and Clara; his brothers, Gerald and Roger Klostermann; a daughter-in-law, Karen Sue Klostermann; two grandchildren, Lauren J. Klostermann and Jason C. Menke; parents-in-law, Frank and Elenore Thole; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Linus (Bernadine) Thole, Charles, Alfred, Lawrence, and Francis Thole, Alice (Elmer Ries/Richard) Olberding, Mary Ann (Fred Jos) Wessels, Cletus Feldmann, and Floyd Feldmann.
