Goldie Lucille Hilsenbeck, 103, of Edgewood, Iowa, formerly of Greeley, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2019, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood. She was born on May 11, 1916, in Greeley, the daughter of Paul and Elizabeth (Kruger) Hatfield. Goldie’s mother passed away when she was 6-months old, and her Aunt Monie and Uncle Abe Brady raised her. She attended rural Delaware County school.
On February 11, 1936, Goldie was united in marriage to Robert Hilsenbeck. Three children were born to this union, Sheryl, Bev, and Jack. The couple farmed southeast of Greeley. In 1957, they moved to Greeley. Goldie worked as a Greeley School cook.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly (the late Gary) Hartbeck of Edgewood; a son-in-law, Jim Schlagel of Westville, Indiana; a daughter-in-law, Clara Hilsenbeck of Solon; ten grandchildren, Dawn (Leonard) Ream, Denise Schlagel, Jamie Schlagel, Karla (Steve) Klosterman, Kristy Pasker, Kim (Jason) Sullivan, Kelli Hartbeck, Tammi Hilsenbeck, Robert Hilsenbeck, and Sean Hilsenbeck; 19 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren, with two on the way.
Goldie was preceded in death by her husband in 1969; two children, Sheryl Schlagel and Jack Hilsenbeck; a son-in-law, Gary Hartbeck; one great-great-grandson, Liam Schlagel; her parents, Paul and Elizabeth; adopted parents, Abe and Monie; and siblings, Robert Hatfield, Jim Brady, Clair Brady, Cecil Brady, and Alice Fry.

Public Celebration of Life: 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, at the St. Mark Catholic Church Parish Hall in Edgewood, Iowa.
