Harriet Irene Mangold, 104, of Manchester, Iowa, formerly of Ryan, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. She was born on August 30, 1915, near Ryan, the daughter of Harry and Verna (Wilson) Daker, and was raised in the area. Harriet attended Milo Township No. 7 Country School through eighth grade and then graduated from Manchester High School in 1932 and the Cedar Rapids Business School in 1933.
Harriet worked for the Delaware County Recorder’s Office for a few years. On October 10, 1936, she was united in marriage to Edward Mangold at her family home near Ryan. Five children were born to this union. The couple began their married life on a farm on the Linn/Delaware County Line Road. Three years later, they moved to the Mangold Family Farm in Hazel Green township. Following Edward’s death, Harriet moved to Manchester in 1996 and then to The Meadows in 2013, before residing the past six months in the Good Neighbor Home.
Harriet enjoyed music, sewing, quilting, and crossword puzzles. She loved creating programs for the Golden Women’s Fellowship and taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was a 4-H leader. She was famous for her T-rings and baby quilts. She also enjoyed her time with the Friday Afternoon Club in Manchester.
Survivors include four children, Gloria (Charles) House of Ankeny, Helen (Thomas) Bormann of Loveland, Ohio, Edward (Donna) Mangold of Aurora, Colorado, and Beverly (Thad Foulk) Mangold of Portland, Oregon; 11 grandchildren, Steve House, David (Lori) House, Allen House, Tara (Anthony) Luckhardt, Jill Showman, Sara (David) Danielson, Jeff Mangold, Kristen (Troy) Love, Theodora Foulk, Daker Foulk, and Edith Foulk; 11 great-grandchildren, Sidney House, Jacob House, Austin and Eric House, Alexa, Elissa, and Aidan Luckhardt, Garrett and Mia Danielson, and Jackson and Paige Love; and her sister-in-law, Beth Daker of Edgewood.
Harriet was preceded in death by her husband, Edward in 1995; a daughter, Linda Showman in 2011; her parents; two brothers, Vance Daker and Lynn (Wanda) Daker; and her sister, Leota (Clarence) Fenchel.
