Harry Clifton Dighton

Harry Clifton Dighton, 90, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019, at the Good Neighbor Home. He was born on October 13, 1928, in rural Hopkinton, the son of Merle and Netta (Cooper) Dighton. As a young boy, Harry’s family moved to Oneida, and he began his schooling there, graduating from Oneida High School in 1945.

Harry farmed with his parents. He also drove truck and drove school bus for the Oneida and Maquoketa Valley schools. On June 10, 1949, Harry was united in marriage to Fern Cocking in rural Manchester. Three children were born to this union.

The couple continued to farm and eventually bought the family farm from his parents. Fern passed away on November 30, 2001, and Harry continued farming until 2012, when his health no longer permitted it. While farming, Harry also kept busy working for FS in Earlville and doing a variety of other jobs.

Harry loved hunting and being outdoors. He was a 50-plus-year blood donor and was always willing to help anyone who needed it. He cherished time with his family.

Survivors include his three children, Charles (Carol) Dighton, Kenneth (Mary) Dighton, and Nancy (Ronnie) Bachman, all of Manchester; five grandchildren, Jason (Kayla) Dighton, Brandi (Nick) Bettis, Tina (Jason) Richter, Todd (Kelly) Dighton, and Sandi (Jason) Cook; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Harry was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and two brothers, Gladwin “Doc” Dighton and Arvin Cooper.
