James M. Basten, 66, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, (formerly of Edgewood) passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospital - UnityPoint Health in Cedar Rapids. He was born on August 12, 1951, in Manchester, the son of James and Dorothy (Perrinjaquet) Basten.
Jim was raised and educated in Edgewood and was a 1969 Edgewood High School graduate. After school he worked as an electrician at Trademark in Guttenberg, and then worked with Paul Anthes and his brother, Bob, as an electrician. Eventually he became a self-employed electrician. Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, trapping, and riding his Harley. Family was the most important thing to him. Jim will always be remembered for his good-natured teasing.
Survivors include his son, Sean (Jennifer) Wood of Hopkinton; two grandchildren, Gage and Trent Wood; his five siblings, Janet Lentz of Springville, Joyce (Nick) Nichols of Colorado, Lynda (Don) Mahan of Marion, Kathleen “Kat” (Roger) Sapp of Central City, and Bob Basten of Edgewood; nieces and nephews, Heather (Rob Kempf) Emerson, Jodi Nichols, John (Brianna) Lentz, Michael Nichols, Cory Mahan, Jamie (Jason) Lentz-Hedges, Billi Jo (Chad Bolsinger) Emerson, Kreig Basten, Salina Basten, and Niki Tibbott; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Bonni Basten-Emerson; and a brother-in-law, John Lentz.
