James Loras Myers

James L. Myers, 71, of Dundee passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, February 16, 2019, from complications after heart surgery. He was a loving husband and father.

James was born on August 29, 1947, in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Victor and Cleo (Shirley) Myers. He attended Lamont School. James worked at Wilson’s Meat Packing Plant in Cedar Rapids for 15 years and worked at AMPI Creamery in Arlington, Iowa, for 25 years until he retired.

On October 17, 1964, James was united in marriage to Linda Kay Harkin. They resided in Lamont for many years until moving to rural Dundee. They raised three sons and two daughters.

James had a passion for spending time with all his family. He also enjoyed coon hunting for many years. After retirement he enjoyed camping and four wheeling.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Linda Myers of Dundee; five children, James (Jackie) Myers, of Lamont, Richard (Kristen) Myers of Anamosa, Eugene (Loretta) Myers of Lamont, Shelley (Bill) Deatsch of North Liberty, and Lynn (Alan) Knipper of Lamont;17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; his brother, Kenneth (Ruth) Myers of Chetek, Wisconsin; two sisters, Mary Gallery of Independence, and Margaret (Gary) Rummel of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his father, Victor; his mother, Cleo; and one brother Eugene.
