Jan Patrick Bockenstedt

Jan Patrick Bockenstedt, 60, of Lamont, Iowa, passed away from a work-related accident on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. He was born on May 24, 1957, in New Vienna, the son of Leo H. and Rita J. (Nurre) Bockenstedt.

Jan graduated from Edgewood-Colesburg High School in 1976. On February 12, 1977, Jan was united in marriage to Joan Harris in Greeley. Three children were born to this union. They farmed in the Garber area. The couple later divorced. In 1993, Jan began Bockenstedt Hoof Trimming. On July 4, 2016, Jan married Corrine (Voelker) Schwietert at Bixby State Park in Edgewood. The couple recently purchased their dream horse acreage in Lamont.

Jan took great pride in his racehorses and in his ability to rope wild cattle. He had a contagious laugh, was a great storyteller, and prankster. Jan loved watching his children do what they loved and was so proud of them. He adored his wife, children, and grandchildren more than life itself.

Survivors include his wife, Corrine Bockenstedt of Lamont; two daughters, Jill (Pete) Wood and Gina (Kraig DeFrang) Bockenstedt all of Plainview, Minnesota; a son Bret (Daphne) Bockenstedt of San Diego, California; two grandchildren, Levi Wood and Vivian Bockenstedt; four brothers, Glen (Sherrie) Bockenstedt of Manchester, Neal Bockenstedt of Des Moines, Curt (Cristen) Bockenstedt of Strawberry Point, and Daron (Cindy) Bockentstedt of Edgewood; and two sisters, Karen (Mike) Zittergruen of Goodyear, Arizona, and Faye (Mark) Mraz of Woodstock, Georgia.

Jan was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Rita Bockenstedt and a niece, Andrea Bockenstedt.

Visitation: 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood, Iowa.

Celebration of Life: 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018, with a time of Gathering and Prayer at 2:00 p.m. at Jan and Corrine’s residence, 925 Oak Street, Lamont, Iowa. (Street parking. There will be some seating. Bring a lawn chair if you have one. Sandwiches and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided. BYOB, shed a little tear, and have some beer.)
