John Andrew Kaiser, 83, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2019, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester. He was born on January 26, 1936, in Earlville, the son of Joseph and Esther (Sternhagen) Kaiser. John was raised in the Earlville area and attended St. Joseph School. He received his GED while serving in the military. John then served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
On September 6, 1961, John was united in marriage to Lois Mensen at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. Four children were born to this union. The family resided in Manchester before moving to Cresco in 1975. John worked for the telephone companies GTE and later Verizon. He retired in 1991 and the couple returned to Manchester in 2006.
John was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He enjoyed woodworking, doing puzzles, and collecting Coca-Cola products. John loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lois Kaiser of Manchester; his four children, Gail (Brian) Erdahl of Ankeny, David Kaiser of Nora Springs, Amy (Rick) Rojek of Cedar Rapids, and Lisa Stigge (special friend, Brian Jett) of Marion; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandsons; two sisters, Marie Neuhaus of Manchester and Bonnie Jean Anderson of Waterloo; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Kaiser of Earlville and Adorine Kaiser of Manchester.
John was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert “Bob”, Alfred, and Kenneth Kaiser; three sisters, Anita Fischer, Patti Rath, and Ruth Kaiser; and a son-in-law, Justin Stigge.
