Joseph Michael Weber

Joseph M. Weber, 79, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester. He was born on January 2, 1938, in Sand Springs, the son of Carl and Anna (Gudenkauf) Weber.

Joe attended Greeley School and then served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Alaska. On February 10, 1962, he married LaVonne Schmitt in Holy Cross. Four children were born to this union. The couple farmed near Greeley until 1975. Joe also worked for Delaware County for 31 years until his retirement in 2003. He also worked for Iowa State University as a motor grader instructor. In 2000, he and LaVonne moved to Manchester.

Joe served for 31 years as a volunteer on the Greeley Fire Department and was a member of the Greeley American Legion and St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. He enjoyed playing golf, watching Nascar, and attending the races with his sons. His other interests included woodworking, gardening, and working on his lawn. Joe especially loved spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, LaVonne of Manchester; four children, Scott (Sheri) Weber of Delhi, John (Morgan Schmidt) Weber of Manchester, Julie (Tom) Johnson of Dubuque, and Pete Weber of Manchester; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; seven siblings, Ann (Bill) Schrader of Manchester, Carlyn Wessel of Marion, Mary (Tim) Cooney of Cedar Rapids, Mike (Ginnie) Weber of Cedar Rapids, Loras “Butch” (Carole) Weber of Robins, and Joanne (Peter Vanderveer) Weber of Madison, and Linda (Kevin) Fergesen of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Irvin Recker; a brother, Bob Weber; an infant brother, William Weber; and a sister, Sharon Mattern.

Special thanks to the staff at RMC Home Healthcare, the RTA drivers, the Comfort Care nurses, and all the neighbors, friends, and family that gave assistance over the last four and a half years.
