Joyce Irene (Kruger) O'Donnell

Joyce Irene O’Donnell, 79, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at her home.  She was born on February 24, 1940, in Greeley, the daughter of Calvin and Etna (Fierstine) Kruger. Joyce was raised in the Greeley and Edgewood areas. She was a 1957 graduate of Edgewood High School.

Joyce was united in marriage to Kenneth Weig and they resided in rural Strawberry Point. One son, Scott, was born to this union.  The couple later divorced. 

On July 5, 1970, Joyce was united in marriage to Francis “Doc” O’Donnell, in Galena, Illinois. The couple resided in rural Strawberry Point.  Joyce worked in area restaurants and the Naling Law Firm in Elkader.  Joyce also assisted Doc with his veterinarian work. Doc passed away in 1998.  Joyce’s passions were dogs, quarter horses, yard plants, and flowers.

Joyce is survived by her son, Scott (Cathy) Weig of Cedar Rapids; her special friend, Jan Esch of Strawberry Point; one stepson, Michael (Sheri) O’Donnell of Cedar Rapids; six siblings, Judy Anton of Manchester, Clair (Maxine) Kruger of Strawberry Point, Connie (Tom) Allyn of Manchester, Fritz (Mary Green) Kruger of Manchester, Craig (Wendy) Kruger of Mount Vernon, and Frank Kruger-Robbins of Boca Raton, Florida; several nieces and nephews; and her canine buddy, “Petey”.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis “Doc” O’Donnell; two sisters, Janice Kruger and Jean Kruger; a brother-in-law, Eugene Anton; and a stepdaughter, Olivia “Ollie” Bruns.
