Martin Lee Bunting

May 29, 1957 ~ October 9, 2017 (age 60) 60 Years Old

Martin Lee Bunting, 60, of Gardner, Kansas, formerly of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2017, at Mayvil Assisted Living in Cedar Rapids. Martin was born in Manchester on May 29, 1957, to Douglas “Wayne” and Velma (Bush) Bunting. He joined two brothers, Bill and Jim, and one sister, Linda, and later was blessed with another brother, Tom, and a sister, Susan.

Martin attended Central Elementary School in Elkader and graduated from Central High School in Elkader. He then began his long career as a truck driver. He worked for several companies throughout the years and ended his career working for Midwest Injection in Cascade.

Martin was married to Bonnie Sue Bailey in March 1978. Two daughters were born to this union, Addie in 1978 and Amber in 1980.  The couple later divorced. Martin was diagnosed with glioblastoma (brain cancer) in December of 2016 and fought a heroic battle.

Martin was a very hard worker and loved his truck driving job. He got to explore every nook and cranny of the states doing what he loved. Martin was a man of few words but always had time to chat. He loved every minute he spent with his kids and grandkids. Martin loved fishing, camping, gardening and being outdoors. He enjoyed cooking Thanksgiving meals for his family and always made the best homemade cranberry sauce and gravy, which he was very proud of. Martin took pride in passing his knowledge of these subjects onto his kids and grandkids, teaching them how to clean fish and set up camp or prepare a decent meal. Martin will be missed dearly by his family.

He is survived by his daughters, Addie Craver of Gardner, Kansas, Amber Bailey-Njeru (Grace Bailey-Njeru) of Marion; four grandchildren, Madesta, Nevaeh, Madisyn, and Chase; his mother, Velma Bunting of Edgewood; five siblings, Linda (Floyd) Forsyth of Manchester, Bill (Mary) Bunting of Edgewood, Jim (Lori) Bunting of Edgewood, Tom and (Lori) Bunting of Edgewood, and Susan (MIke) Schams of Holmen, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.

Martin was preceded in death by his father.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the medical staff at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas, and to Mayvil Assisted Living Center, PCI Medical Specialty Clinics, and Unity Point Hospice, all of Cedar Rapids for all of the care and comfort you provided to Martin in his last days. You are all very much appreciated.
