Mary B. Smock, 72, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home. She passed peacefully with her sons and other close family at her side. Mary was born on November 26, 1946, in Manchester, the daughter of Charles and Kathryn (Koile) Chapman. She graduated from Ed-Co High School.
On October 30, 1965, Mary was united in marriage to Richard “Rick” Allen Smock in Edgewood. She was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Edgewood. Together Rick and Mary ran the Smock OK Hardware in Edgewood for many years. They loved spending time with their boys and never missed an event. Many days were spent enjoying the outdoors. You could often find Rick and Mary fishing, camping or just sitting together on the deck. Later, Mary worked at Ed-Co High School as a teachers’ aide and was well known as the “ice cream lady”.
Mary had a great sense of humor, dearly loved her grandkids, and was an excellent cook. She made some darn fine caramels and Danish puff. Mary will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mary is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Darren (Courtney) Smock of Coggon and Daniel (Jeannette) Smock of Lisbon; five grandchildren, Conner, Reid, Regan, Cooper, and Sydney Smock; eight sisters and brothers-in-law, Diana (Leo) Helle, Shirley Chapman, Audrey (Ambrose) Loecke, Joyce (Gary) Barnhart, and Caroline Smock; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rick; parents, Charles “Chuck” and Kathyrn “Kay” Chapman; her brother, Terry Chapman; and in-laws, Lois (Burt) Kruger, Val Smock, Eva (George) Brecht, Bud (Brenda) Smock, and Jayne (Mert) Miller.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the wonderful staff at the Edgewood Convalescent Home for the excellent care and love they have given to Mary during her time there.
