Maxine Lulu Schultz, 91, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2018, at Marietta’s Place in Manchester.  She was born on January 26, 1927, in Waterloo, the daughter of Clair and Lulu (Sommer) Peters. Maxine was baptized into the Lutheran faith in Waterloo.  The family moved to Tripoli when she was four years old. Maxine attended grade school there.  The family then moved to Fredericksburg where she attended country school.  She was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in 1941. They then moved to Westgate and Maxine graduated from Maynard High School in 1944.

On July 29, 1945, Maxine was united in marriage to Robert Schultz at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Westgate.  The service was conducted by Bob’s father, Pastor Otto Schultz. Four sons were born to this union. Bob served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. The couple owned and operated the Schultz Briardale Grocery Store in Westgate for 15 years, from 1945 to 1960.  The family then moved to Cedar Falls where they owned and operated Bob’s Rainbow Grocery for 28 years, from 1960 to 1988. They retired in 1988 and moved to Lake Delhi. After 63 years of marriage, Bob passed away on December 30, 2008.
