Nathan Dean Allen, 85, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. He was born on March 29, 1933, in Belle Plaine, the son of Roy Edward and Iona Jane (Norton) Allen. The family moved to Traer, where Nathan graduated from high school in 1951. He joined the Navy Seabees in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1957.
On August 18, 1957, Nathan was united in marriage to Virginia Marie Gibbs in Rochelle, Georgia. Two children were born to this union. Nathan installed switchboards for Kellogg Switchboard Supply. In 1962, the family moved to Manchester, where Nathan worked for GTE. He retired in 1991.
Nathan loved playing guitar and singing. Over the years, he played and sang in three different bands. He also enjoyed fishing and doing yardwork.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Virginia of Manchester; his children, Mike (Marsha) Allen of Onalaska, Wisconsin, and Dawn Allen of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn (Dan) Baranczyk, Jessica Rae Allen, and Joshua Michael (Amanda) Allen; and four great-grandchildren.
Nathan was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Carroll and Dennis Allen.
