Nina Frances (Boots) Hempstead

Nina Frances Hempstead, 56, formerly of Hopkinton, Iowa, passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, on Sunday, April 1, 2018.  She was born on November 11, 1961, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Dale E. and Hazel E. (Dennis) Boots.  Nina was raised and educated in Hopkinton and graduated from Maquoketa Valley High School.

In 1980, Nina was united in marriage to Mike Hempstead.  Four children were born to this union.  They later divorced. In 1991, Nina was married to Randall Bensley.  They later divorced.

Over the years, Nina worked at nursing homes, gas stations, and factories.  She especially enjoyed working at Sumitumo in Scottsville, Kentucky.  Nina enjoyed embroidery and going to garage sales and Wal-Mart. 

Survivors include her three children, Jason Boots of Balltown, Melissa (Travis) Biggs of Scottsville, Kentucky, and Jeremy (Erica) Hempstead of Dubuque; three step-children, Tonia (Jenny) Tasker, JoAnn Bensley, and Elizabeth (Matt) Berry; 17 grandchildren, and one sister, Becky (Buddy) Brandenburg of Dubuque.

Nina was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Jessie Hempstead; and a brother, Allen Boots.
