Paul Kammarmeyer, 59 of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 26, 1958, in Vermillion, South Dakota, the son of Bruce and Freda (Wood) Kammarmeyer. Paul was a 1976 graduate of Central Lyon High School in Rock Rapids. He then attended and was a 1980 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa.
On July 26, 1980, Paul was united in marriage to Laura Primus at the Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock. Three daughters were born to this union. The family lived in Grundy Center for eight years before moving to Manchester in 1988. Paul worked for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals for 28 years.
Paul was an avid runner and also enjoyed cycling. He enjoyed hunting with his labs and being outdoors. Paul was well known as “Greenie, the Balloon Man” for his balloon art. Paul loved being a mentor and shared his faith and talents with many. He shared his gift of humor wherever he went. Paul loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Left to cherish his memory are, his wife of 37 years, Laura Kammarmeyer of Manchester; his three daughters, Jill (Matt) Carpenter, Jamie (Wes) Schulte, and Megan (Brian) McKenzie, all of Manchester; five grandchildren, Sy, Fynn, Ivy, and Ari Schulte, and Genevieve Carpenter; his mother, Freda Kammarmeyer of Rock Rapids; his siblings, Greg (Leone) Kammarmeyer of Brea, California, Helen (Phil) Nichols of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Karen (Steve) Hoffrogge of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada; sisters- and brothers-in law, Beth(Clive) Ware of Mt. Vernon, Washington, Nelson Primus of Wellsburg, Grant (Deana) Primus of Janesville, and Ann (Bob) Stecker of Rock Island, Illinois; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his father Bruce Kammarmeyer in 2016; one brother-in-law, Alan Primus; his parents-in-law, Herman and Lois Primus; and his two labs, Bo and B.J.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been set up in Paul’s memory to continue Paul’s legacy of putting smiles on children’s faces.
