Paul Perry Phillips

Paul Perry Phillips, 90 of Colesburg, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019, at Lincolnwood Assisted Living in Edgewood, Iowa.  He was born on December 15, 1928, in Edgewood, the son of William and Letha (Sherman) Phillips.  Paul was raised and educated in the Colesburg area and was a 1946 graduate of Colesburg High School. He then attended Iowa State Teachers’ College for one year.

On June 11, 1950, Paul was united in marriage to Eleanor Klaus at the Zion Methodist Church near Colesburg.  The couple farmed together on their farm southwest of Colesburg. In 1999 they moved to their home in Colesburg.

Paul was a longtime member of the Colesburg United Methodist Church.  He loved farming, and especially loved his family.  Paul enjoyed playing cards, computer games, and doing word search puzzles. 

Survivors include his wife of nearly 69 years, Eleanor Phillips of Edgewood; his three children, Sharon Phillips of Cedar Rapids, Debra (Jeff) Breeden of Grinnell, and Lonna (David) Drewelow of Cedar Rapids; his three foster children, Rita (Randy) Moser of Waterloo, Bob Luckeroth of Jesup, and Rena Luckeroth of Eldora; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Viola Nussbaum of Portland, Oregon; one brother, Herbert (Helen) Phillips of Altoona; sisters-and-brothers-in-law, Philip Rummells of Cedar Rapids, Gerald (Karen) Klaus of Lebanon, Missouri, Shirley (Bill) Bissell of Lebanon, Missouri, and Janice Klaus of Colesburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; two granddaughters; one great-grandson; a sister, Ida Belle Rummells; his brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Mary Alice Phillips; and two brothers-in-law, Evert Klaus and George Nussbaum..
