Randall "Randy" Hans South

Randall Hans “Randy” South, 67, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, surrounded by his family.  He was born on December 15, 1950, in Independence, the son of Walter and Betty (Olson) South.  Randy was raised in Hazleton and graduated from Oelwein High School in 1973.

On October 13, 1990, Randy was united in marriage to Connie Funk.  Together they raised two children.  Randy did construction work for many years. He also worked in meat processing plants in northeast Iowa. 

Randy loved playing pool, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed watching the Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes.  Randy dearly loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.   

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Connie South of Strawberry Point; his two children, Shelby Swanson of Strawberry Point and Zach South of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Izabelle Hubbard and Ava Swanson; a sister, Sherry Bigelow of Hazleton; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Steve Funk of Edgewood, Julie (Gene) Miller of Dundee, Karen Perry of Strawberry Point, and Kevin (Teresa) Funk of Edgewood; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Wally South; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Funk.

The family requests that that guests wear Iowa Hawkeye or Chicago Cubs attire.
