Robert "Bob" Clemen Obituary

Robert Henry “Bob” Clemen, 86, of Manchester, Iowa (formerly of Masonville), passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at his daughter’s home. He was born on September 21, 1931, in Dyersville, the son of Henry and Edna (Leigh) Clemen. He was the oldest son of 10 children. Bob attended school in Manchester and Dyersville, completing the eighth grade at Xavier Catholic School in Dyersville.

On June 9, 1953, Bob was united in marriage to Helen Fay Spinler at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. Five children were born to this union. They farmed together near Manchester, Prairieburg, Ryan, and Masonville.

Bob and Helen were dedicated members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Masonville for more than 55 years.  In 1984, Bob was elected to the Delaware County Board of Supervisors, where he served for 12 years. He was active in many community organizations and especially enjoyed his activities with the Delaware County Pork Producers. Bob also served on numerous civic boards and led the way in establishing the Delaware County Senior Center. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters for more than 85 years.

Bob enjoyed camping and traveling, where he welcomed meeting new friends. He loved to visit and was a great storyteller. More than anything else, Bob adored his family. He cherished hearing about the interests and passions of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Bob is survived by four children, James (Michelle) Clemen of Oelwein, Kathy (Steve) Dolan of Manchester, Kevin (Carol) Clemen of Amana, and Wayne Clemen of Manchester; 12 grandchildren, Cindy, Sharyn, and Jason Clemen, Pat, Mitch, and Tami Dolan, Kelcy Rasmussen, Joel Kaiser, and Kesha Billings, Jenn Dowell, Missy Ballard, and Travis Clemen; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dick (Mary) Clemen of Manchester and Charles (JoAnn) Clemen of Walker, Minnesota; four sisters, Dorothy Helmrich of Manchester, Bernedette Fessler of Earlville, Jean (Roger) Palmer of Manchester, and Darlene Kafer of Manchester; two sisters-in-law, Kathy Clemen of Masonville and Shirley Spinler of Marion; one brother-in-law, John Pape of Edgewood; and many nieces and nephews.

Waiting to greet Bob in Heaven are his parents; his wife, Helen; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Dan Kaiser; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Clemen; two sisters, Theresa Pape and Mary Helmrich; a brother, Kenneth Clemen; and five brothers-in-law, Herman Helmrich, Sylvester Kafer, Robert Fessler, Merle Helmrich, and Melvin Spinler.
