Ruth Richards Adams, 87, of Lamont, Iowa, died on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point. She was born on November 26, 1931, in New London, Connecticut, the daughter of Arvin and Ruth (Richards) Miller.
Ruth was raised and educated in Quaker Hill, Connecticut, and attended the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. While in Virginia, she taught kindergarten in Springfield. Ruth was united in marriage to Charles Martin and four sons were born to this union. They later divorced.
In 1989, Ruth was married to Lyle Adams in Fairbanks, Alaska. Together the couple resided in Lamont, Iowa.
Ruth was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteering at the Common Grounds Coffee House in Lamont. Ruth also enjoyed golf, tennis, flowers, and crafts.
Survivors include her husband, Lyle Adams of Lamont; four sons, Charles (Dianna) Martin of Clifton, Virginia, Douglas (Suzanne) Martin of Purcellville, Virginia, Paul (Lori) Martin of Falls Church, Virginia, and Eric Martin of Moncure, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Abigail (Paul) Krappweis of Herndon, Virginia, Gregory Martin of Clifton, Virginia, Lydia and Rose Martin of Purcellville, Virginia, and Hailey, Tyler, and Alison Martin of Pittsboro, North Carolina; one stepdaughter, Pamela (Rob) Gilbertson of Menahga, Minnesota; a stepson, Darren Adams of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and three step-grandchildren, Heather (Dennis) Gross of La Crescent, Minnesota, Doug (Justina) Gilbertson of Prior Lake, Minnesota, and Alexander (Carolyn) MacDuff of Pflugerville, Texas.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Arvin Miller.
