Wayne Wendell Huggins, 79, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019, at Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. He was born on August 24, 1940, in Hopkinton, the son of Francis Eugene and Irene Catherine (Bees) Huggins. Wayne graduated from Hopkinton High School in 1958 and then served honorably in the United States Army.
Wayne hauled milk early on, served on the Manchester Police Force, worked for UBC for nearly 20 years, and ran the Pied Piper in Manchester for 10 years. He then sold flooring for Carpet King in Marion. Wayne also built spec houses.
Wayne married Nancy, and one son was born to this union. The couple later divorced. On April 12, 1992, Wayne was united in marriage to Rayma (Boss) Ungs at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point.
Wayne was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church and Manchester American Legion Post #45. An avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, Wayne enjoyed watching their basketball and football games. He also loved to travel, especially to Texas where Wayne and Rayma wintered for ten years. While in Texas, they enjoyed playing Texas Canasta and were volunteers at the Border Missions in Hidalgo. Wayne cherished time spent with his family and dog Buffy, their traveling companion.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Rayma of Manchester; a son, David Huggins; three stepchildren, Charles Ungs of Manchester, Cheri (Bill) Tiedemann of Indianola, and Robert (Jana) Ungs of Manchester; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, with one on the way.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lloyd; another brother who died at birth; many aunts and uncles; and his parents-in-law, Raymond and Lucille Boss.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Border Missions, Rehab to Home (R2H) of the Good Neighbor Society, and First Lutheran Church for Missions.
Wayne’s family wishes to thank the Regional Medical Center, Good Neighbor Home, University of Iowa Hospital, and Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy staff and physicians for the wonderful care Wayne received.
